GROWTH IN IoT CONNECTIVITY CONTINUES BUT IS IT SLOWING?

TecFutures asked the opinions of 75 IoT CSPs of IoT connections and revenue growth and how much enterprises spend on connectivity as a proportion of the overall amount.

CSPs are anticipating a 6.5% average connections growth in the next 12 to 24 months. Interestingly, 16% of MNOs forecast growth from 10% to 25% compared to 3% of MVNOs. Global players are forecasting highest growth of 14%.

In terms or revenue growth per IoT connection, the average is 5% ARPU growth in the next 12 to 24 months. MNOs are more optimistic than MVNOs. Global players forecast the highest growth and single country players lowest. This low rate of growth could reflect an increasingly competitive market.

For every dollar spent on IoT globally, 7.3% is spent on connectivity. This figure has fallen from around 10% a few years ago indicating that connectivity risks becoming commoditised.
